Procedures For Weight Loss

What is the biological process for losing fat and why is it that men tend to lose fat more and much faster than women? These are often the nagging questions that may be annoying but definitely need to be answered.

The Dreaded Calories

For starters, calories are units to measure energy. If you’re wondering how people get fat, it’s as simple as the equation of more calorie intake and less calorie burned. Thus, in order to have a fat-free body, what you need is a balance in the equation – you should only eat calories that you can burn. It’s an open secret that everyone knows but only few can practice.

The Complex Process of Calorie Burning

Well let’s better start off with the very first activity that leads to the formation of fats in the body – eating. Did you know that the moment you first bite on that delicious donut, your body already starts its digestion process? Yes. Once the food touches your mouth, your saliva immediately gives out enzymes that immediately digest food and start burning all the calories they could.

You must also know that energy or calories are burned down and first become simple sugars or glucose. Next, glucose will then be turned into starches, then carbohydrates, then proteins and lastly, lipids or the fats.

Once the saliva had already digested all that it could, the left over calories will then be stored by other parts of your body through what is called lipids. Carbon and hydrogen are the elements that make up the lipids which serve as a long term energy storage, among their other functions, such that once your body does not receive any food, this stored energy or fat will then act as the body’s ultimate food source. Lipids are also essential in breaking down some nutrients and vitamins in our body, namely vitamins K, A, D and E.

Contributing Factors

There are many factors that contribute to the formation of fats in the body. Some of these are age and sex. You may ask, why do some people eat often and still not gain weight? Well blame it on genetics. It is one of, if not the foremost reason for fat formation. Some people are definitely blessed to have cells that have the ability to rapidly break down fats and increase metabolism. Furthermore, gender equality may not only be present in terms of social norms. When it comes to weight gain and calorie burning, men are more blessed with faster metabolism. Women tend to store fats in their body, especially after childbirth, and are more likely to have much difficulty in losing them, especially in the body parts like the belly, hips and arms.
